What Would the Holy Spirit Say About Your Calendar?
How to Manage Your Calendar so The Holy Spirit can Work Through You
We’re all busy. Meeting after meeting—exercise—kids sports—networking events—all the while trying to keep close to God.
What’s the issue with this picture?
Welcome back to Catholic Founders, The #1 Publication For Catholic Founders & Business Owners. We’re on a mission to support and educate Catholic Business Owners worldwide so that together, we can intentionally influence the world toward God.
Running businesses in union with the Church’s teachings gives us a huge, multi-purpose lever to pull to accomplish this mission.
Example: living The Faith gives witness to our employees, leading them to God.
Finance: we can fund the construction and remodeling of churches and schools.
Employment: we can help people provide for their families.
Mentorship: we can elevate young folks to learn and develop their skills.
Education: we can educate the public on Catholicism through our example.
All of these things are focused on us. We look inward. Is this the right thing to do? We know it’s not. God gave us these skills, and we must use them for His purposes. We can only do this through The Holy Spirit.
How can we do this?
There are two components. (1) Leave space for The Holy Spirit, and (2) Learn to notice when The Spirit is tugging at us in a particular situation.
Make Space
Ambitious founders manage a tight schedule. We pack in as much as we can. If we’re good—we also make time for the things we know are important, like God, Family, and Exercise. However, if we want to do this well, we must leave gaps in our calendar each day.
It doesn’t matter when those are; just put them there. Leave a few minutes between meetings. I like to keep them 15 minutes apart. Sure, I get fewer meetings done, but it forces me to be judicious about who I’m meeting with. I need to know if it’s actually important.
Those gaps leave opportunities for The Spirit to say howdy.
It’s similar to how some people leave the doors open on Pentecost. We are welcoming The Spirit in. Giving Him easy entrance.
This is the first step—making space.

Practice Noticing
Just because we have a gap in the calendar doesn’t mean the Firey Tongues are stopping by. Heck, they may show up when we have something else scheduled as is.
This means we need to develop the skill of recognizing when He’s knocking. Maybe you’ve got a troubled employee. Your wife is in need of consolation. An accident just took place outside your business.
It could be as subtle as a supplier sharing something about faith that demonstrates He’s open to hearing more about why you do what you do. After all, if you’re living The Faith well, it will eventually make an impression on others. They’ll get curious. Inquire. Eventually, they’re ready to listen. You need to know when.
In case you forgot, when we choose to speak in these moments, it’s not us; it’s The Spirit working through us.
Bottom line—we must do this, so let’s practice.
Practice by,
Invoking the Holy Spirit—“Come Holy Spirit”
During morning prayers, ask for your eyes to be opened
Make a mental commitment that you’ll do this (a good way to do this is to write down some of the instances you might expect this to happen)
Have a discussion with a fellow Catholic Founder to deepen the importance of the topic in your head
Go to Mass regularly (the graces attached are innumerable)
Most importantly, try. Try your best and commit to being an instrument of God. Each of us will have different scenarios each day when people are in need. When we can minister.
When this happens, don’t be afraid to reschedule a meeting if the person in front of you clearly is in need.
In summary, intentionally make time for The Holy Spirit on your calendar through gaps, and learn to notice when The Spirit is speaking to you. Then don’t be afraid to do what you know you must.
See ya next time! 👋
