Indeed, humility is the foundation of all Christian virtue. We must always remember, however, that the promised exaltation by God can look an awful lot like failure in the eyes of the world, even death. As far as I am aware, none of the Saints died wealthy. Those who did attain some amount of wealth usually spent their lives giving it away.

What we must guard against is allowing the measurement of success that the world provides to be the primary influence of the use of our gifts and talents, our pursuit of humility, and our pursuit of the will of God for our lives.
