Wouldn’t it be nice to be the next Jeff Bezos? Deep down I’m sure we all have some level of desire to be at the top of the heap. But what mentality would Jesus want us to have about leadership?
Let’s look at the readings from May 29th (N.O. calendar—Mark 10:32-45). I’m focused on verses 44 and 45.
“And whosoever will be first among you shall be the servant of all. For the Son of man also is not come to be ministered unto: but to minister and to give his life a redemption for many.” — Mark 10:44-45
If the Son of God, who is perfect, came to Earth to serve what are we supposed to do? Are we meant to build empires and have a bunch of people serving us?
I mean, how many of us as entrepreneurs imagine a life of relative ease where others take care of the unpleasant parts of life? After all, getting to that point would require a lot of work, and we would have earned it…right?
Nothing could be further from the truth. We were not born to receive but to give. Especially as entrepreneurs, we are presented with a precarious predicament. We build businesses and hire people to work for us. This is true, but it doesn’t change the fact that we are called to serve those around us.
Our success is a gift to us, and we are to use it to serve those around us.
We can serve in many ways: mentoring others, viewing our role as an employer as a service to the families of the people who work for us, providing financially for some aspect of the Church’s needs, our own families, and underserved communities.
Today’s message is simple—cultivate servant leadership. (double click) Cultivate—plant, nurture, water, and provide adequate sunshine. It’s not just a nice thing to say—it’s a responsibility. A calling from above.

To cap it off—pick one action each day to stack this thought with.
“Not to be served—but to serve.”
Some examples:
Each time you open your office door—say it.
Each time you open your laptop—say it.
When you’re prepping for a Zoom call—say it.
Whatever it is, tie it to something specific thing. To build the habit, write it down on a sticky note or set a recurring reminder to pop up every 30-45 minutes.
Do this for a few days, and it will become part of you.
CHALLENGE: Let us know the part of your routine you tie this to to help inspire others.
For me (once I’m back to my usual routine in Wisconsin) I’ll say it every time I sit down in my chair.
See ya next time! 👋
