Performing acts of evangelization is made possible entirely by the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Ghost, our faith would be similar to running blindfolded in a forest (kind of sounds like a game our kids would play).
Some of the reflections I’ve heard this week pointed out the Apostles' inability to see clearly before Pentecost when the tongues of fire descended on them. Just think about the example of the multiplication of the loaves. Even after Jesus multiplied the loaves twice, ensuring everyone was fed, the Apostles still asked how they would eat. Imagine that. What lame nimwits. They couldn’t even get the memo after seeing it done twice.
Truth is, we are exactly like the apostles in this way.
Over and over, God takes care of us. Provides for our needs. Forgives us. And yet, our anxiety continues.
We could beat ourselves up over it and say, why can’t you do better, you dummy? But here’s the thing. No matter how hard we try, we cannot do this without the help of the Holy Spirit.

Pre & Post Paraclete
The scene of Pentecost gives us a clear separation between the apostles pre-Paraclete and post-Paraclete. The very moment The Spirit enters them, they perform works. In this case, it’s a ‘great work’ to demonstrate the power of The Spirit. But this is the same power that allows them to do even the smallest thing.
This is the same Spirit that allows each of us to perform any work of evangelization. From the smallest act of kindness to the grandest act of sacrifice. All of it is only made possible by this illustrious third person of the Trinity.
One way we can recognize this more fully is by understanding the nature of the Spirit (as well as we can as humans).
God the Father exists. Full stop. God the Son is The Father knowing Himself. The Spirit is the resulting bond of love between Them. Zoom in. The entire nature of The Spirit is the fact that It is love. It is a uniting force between two Beings.
The Spirit does the same thing between us and our fellow men. Once The Spirit enters us, we have the ability to care for, bond with, and offer help to our fellow man.
At the risk of repetivitiy (is that a word?) The Holy Spirit is the entire means by which we minister to fellow men. This is not our own power or ability. We are merely cooperating.
Now—let us keep this in mind each day. As discussed in the past, if we want to become more perfect, we need to become fully united with God. One way we can do this is through frequent aspirations (short prayers) to The Holy Spirit. This is especially important for us if we are making a concerted effort to cooperate with God through our business and professional endeavors.
Frequently throughout the day, if we encounter a challenge or are stressed about something, perhaps dealing with a tough customer,
Action Item: Throughout the day say quietly in your head “Come Holy Spirit.” Use this in any situation. Interacting with a customer. Dealing with a tough conversation. Managing a supplier negotiation. Whatever it is, ask the Holy Spirit to be with you in that moment. You may not maintain that conscious awareness throughout the interaction, but you’re one step closer to unity with God.
See ya next time! 👋
