Today, we’re talking with Marty Arlinghaus, a man who is building a new model for prison ministry, from the ground up.
Marty is the founder of The Serenelli Project, an ambitious initiative designed to build a monastery for convicts re-entering society. It all started with a simple, jarring question from an inmate: “Could a guy like me become a priest?”
That question launched Marty into a mission to bridge the gap between incarceration and true, lasting transformation. We explore how mercy isn’t just a nice concept, but a radical, transformative power that can reshape society.

Mercy has a way of melting hearts. This might be the key to transforming our society.
I’m certainly shooting from the hip when I say this, but during the conversation, I became really convinced that our society is one in desperate need of mercy. Mercy because of the huge amount of sin in our world currently.
The person receiving the mercy can be touched in a certain way. It also really affects the giver (in many cases even more than the recipient). Heck, even an observer can be transformed by witnessing mercy.
So, while I don’t know the exact mechanics, I’m convinced that as business owners, there is something regarding mercy that we can do to really make a transformation in our society. If you know what that might be, please drop it in the comments.
